Sports Supplements

If you have started going to the gym or exercising, you might have heard of supplements which promise to help you build muscle or lose weight faster.

Sports supplements have become popular with people interested in fitness and improving their physique. Some claim to enhance muscle growth when combined with exercise, such as weightlifting, while others can control your appetite when you're trying to lose weight, as part of a bodybuilding diet.

It's very important to be cautious when using these supplements, particularly for young people. Many have been designed to be used by adults or professional athletes - as a young person, your body is still developing and may not be equipped to deal with the strain that some supplements can put on it.

Some illegal supplements, including some which claim to be 'fat-burning', slimming, or aid muscle gain, are available to buy online and these can be extremely harmful.

It is safest to focus on getting the right amount of nutrition in your diet. if you're unsure about how to do this, or if you feel you are not getting enough nutrition, you could speak to your GP and ask to be referred to a dietitian for advice.
